The Lilly Road

Road trip up to King of Prussia to Lilly headquarters was a blast.
Spring 2011 was presented to us and I have several things to say.

Oh My God......Can you say Mad Men? Everything this season is 50's flirty dresses and Lilly is on it. Over 40 amazing silhouettes are in this incredible grouping.

It starts with a POP in January with a print called Pop Purple Optical confusion and finishes up with Lillys Pink Big Squeeze. This grouping came from the pop cultural influence and features a one shoulder wonder!

The Whittaker will be here in January 2011 in two prints for $258.00.

The next section is dedicated to virgins....just kidding. The White Dress presentation is breathtaking. Very soft,lacy, and pure. Very Uma meets Pfeiffer. Dresses with a strap have a two finger rule, which all of us Moms know is great for graduation or religious events. We are excited about all 12 dresses in this group.

Sisters and an Apple

Casey and I went to The Big Apple for two days, yes I flew. Yes, It was great and I had fun. so I can't wait until September when we buy for Spring.

We stayed at Le Parker Meridien ,which houses the famous "Norma's" restaurant. Incredible food and a must do for breakfast. I will try to julienne veggies for my egg white omelets. Amazing how the ordinary veggie omelet became a work of art by just changing the texture and shape of an ingredient. Huh? Food for thought... yeah yeah no pun intended. oh and do not get the $1000.00 caviar omelet, but if you do can I have a taste?

Off to the shows for our November/December buy. Milly's theme : Jackie O goes sailing. Very fresh bright yellow, true navy, cornflower blue all with bright whites + sailboats of course.

Tibi went Safari. Muted drab khaki,light lavender,safari beige and of course great sparkles. We found a few new lines,which you will see in the late fall. No no you can't know about it now. It wouldn't be a surprise then silly. Nanette outdid her self with embellishments galore in all the right spaces.

Great restaurant for dinner, Serafina between Park and Madison on 61st. Whole wheat aglio e olio, giant chicken milanese, and mouth watering salmon. Great neighborhood and people watching galore.

After I went for quite a long walk all over 5th and Madison soaking up the city, I ran into so many people from our area. No anonymity for me. Good thing I am an open book huh?

Randoms I came upon, of all people, two of the Lilly print designers....Jeff and Paige. I will be seeing you in a few weeks up in KOP to see Spring 2011. Then I headed right to the pink and green of Madison Ave. Good to see how the other half lives. Somehow it works for me a little better in Palm Beach, but the New York scene deserves a bought of Lilly now and then.

Hang Ten...

We had a visit from the "Father of the Modern Longboard" himself, Steve Walden, on Friday. As the icon behind Walden Surfboards, Steve shaped his first surfboard at the age of 13 and estimates that, to date, he has personally shaped more than 20,000 boards. Our favorite is this Lilly Pulitzer beauty in the Multi Juice Stand print complete with pink glitter bottom!

SUZE loves LILLY

We were asked to be part of a wonderful charity event benefiting WXEL, our local public broadcasting service, at Mar A Lago. Woman with Wings and Wisdom. C. Orrico presented a fashion show of Lilly Pulitzer Spring 2009. The guest speaker was Suze Orman...clearly a woman with wisdom, I did not see wings, but I am sure she has a set. The theme of the event was Lilly Pulitzer, 50 years of a colorful life. Lilly was our guest. She definitely has wings. Wisdom goes wihout saying.

Suze was uplifting and empowering. She paid tribute to Lilly herself with a personal story. It brought the audience to a teary eyed standing ovation. It was a story of Suze being down and out. No money,credit cards to the hilt, no job. She said she was at the low of lows. A friend had invited her to Palm Beach and with an invite to Lilly's for dinner. Suze said she could not believe they were eating at the infamous Lilly Pulitzers house. Sheepishly Suze went. When she arrived at the house Lilly treated her as if she knew Suze her whole life. She made Suze feel like an amazing individual who was the most important person to Lilly herself. Then Suze realized she made everyone in the room feel this way. What a wonderful woman. No matter a dignitarie or a car detailer....Lilly treats all as equal.

AND THE GOLDEN TICKET WINNER IS....

We want to to congratulate our first Golden Ticket winner Tracy Baker. She drew one of our Golden Tickets yesterday and won an original canvas Lilly Pulitzer print of her choice.

Where are you going to hang that work of art?

Classic Palm Beach Style AND Wet T-Shirt Contest

Leave it to Kathie... Only our sister could be drinking a kamboucha, the fermented juice beverage that is way good for you, and somehow end up creating a geiser in a glass bottle. But that's just what she did yesterday, right there at the cash register/counter!

Opening her cold delicious beverage, there was spontaneous combustion, covering her in her frilly Lilly polo that merges the best of play with tiny tuxedo ruffles and soaking a good bit of the carpet. Thankfully, no one's merchandise was near the explosion, but... one of our good humor customers from D.C. couldn't help himself

Chuckling as only a man with a true sense of comedy can, he looked at the drenches Kathie, let out a low whistle and said, "Now you guys really have got it all: Lilly Pulitzer, every other great line AND a wet -shirt contest."

Thankfully, everyone else remained in their Lilly, Milly, Tibi, Trina, GoVan Go and beyond. But for that one moment, the Cinderella sister looked like the epitome of springbreak in Ft Lauderdale.

FASHION ROCKS PALM BEACH!!!!

We have our own sense of style... our own way of dress... our own way of being...

Palm Beach is its own destination -- and the truly stylish recognize that there's a whole sartorial whirl beyond what the fashion magazines dictate. It's not anti-fashion -- our girls wear Gucci and Hermes, Prada and Chanel just as well as anyone -- but it's more about dressing for one's own pleasure. LILLY PULITZER: Woman of the Year!!!!

As if those of us in the pink & the green didn't already know... Heck, to us, she's the woman of always... but Palm Beach Atlantic University with their friends at Bank of America made it official: Lilly Pulitzer is the Woman of the Year. Indeed, not just The Woman of the Yearm but a "Woman of Distinction."
The honor was bestowed at the historic Breakers hotel, in a room filled to capacity with 600 of the top social, cultural and professional women of South Florida, gathered to celebrate the singular achievements of one woman, several classic silhouettes and every color in the rainbow. And Lilly was her usual self: funny, engaging and quick to honor Women of Distinction Scholarship recipients Megan Herwald and Jordan Kidd, both class of 2008.
"It's sort of funny," the sandy blond with the great laugh said appreciatively, "because I've only had a fews months of college. But since you've done it, you've gone and given it to me, I'm not giving it back."
In classic Lilly style, she deflected, exulted and reminded people it's all about attitude, quoting the other perennial Lilly, Lilly Tomlin, who said, "If you wi the Rat Race, you're still a rat..."
Also, honored was Sydell Miller, co-founder of the Matrix hair care line, another innovator in the realm of both beauty and women in the workforce. Both women had their children on hand -- as they were recognized for changing the norm and making the world, especially for women, a much better place.

Lilly Mens Designer Turns 30 with Lilly + A Nite on the Town

30 is such a great age, as Lilly Menswear designer Jeremy Pilch celebrated in true Palm Beach fashion with the muse and raison du couture Lilly Pulitzer under the stars as Renatos, the classic eatery while in town for C. Orrico's Enter The Dragon Men's Trunk Show. Seated next to the style icon, Pilch talked the fall/formal collection, tasted Lilly's planters punch and unravelled a birthday ball that contained a fortune telling magic fish, a flip flop charm, a bit of amethyst (the Feb. birth stone). stickers, a gummy bracelet proclaiming Bling Bling and a small bottle of bubbles to blow.

While Lilly didn't jump out of the cake, she did take it. Giving the young man shaping the look of Lilly Men's an oversized print of her leaping from former husband Peter Pulitzer's small plane, her own namesake shift flying. With a ps of "Don't Peak," it was the perfect present for the Calvin Klein vet who is making a name for himself with the pink, the green, the blue and the yellow.

THE DRAGON ARRIVES...

They came... like rock stars. Anonymous black road cases overpacked and strapped to insure nothing would burst open, littering technicolor prints and peacock options all over some unsuspecting baggage handler.

And then they unpacked. The men of Lilly, the women of C. Orrico.

All of the Fall/Formal and even a peak at 2009 Resort. It is amazing stuff. The quality, the textures, the motifs -- and especially, the cuts, so close to the body, they are razor sharp, yet so lengthening, anyone will appear lithe in these blazers, pants, evening jackets and even baggy board shorts.

It is not just sartorial sensation being delivered to 336 South County Road, but a culture accessed by only the few who understand that it takes a very confidant, very vibrant, very relaxed man to square back and wear clothes these audaciously tasteful. It is a litmus test in the rarified air of those who "get it" and the valley of "NOKD."

There are MaiTais for 100 coming in, specially hand-mixed by Renato's Mark, the uberadorable bartender who knows how to leave his patrons stirred not shaken. In a land where we are often measured by the cover of the book or the company we keep, how would one ever sidestep something as glorious as optic white dragons tangled on a field of true deep marine blue -- or living a life where one was unaware of the right barkeep? Ineed

APPROACHING THE DRAGON...

Well, there is NOTHING more breath-taking than the dining room of the Beach Club -- looking out on the crashing waves of the Atlantic. Those breakers remind you just how powerful the world we live in truly is...

Easily as powerful as all the generous people who bid over $10,000 on the silent auction, donated over another $1000 for some of the most gorgeous orchids we've seen in a very long time and generally enjoyed lunch and a lot of fresh spring styles... 

Once we catch up with ourselves, we'll have pictures posted (because seeing the looks IS the next best thing to being there...)

but now, we Orricos are huddling and readying for the Dragon. The Lilly Pulitzer Men's Trunk Show, which will preview the fall and formal wear that's coming. GOOD THING SHE'S IN TRAINING

That sexy Colleen Orrico, the youngest of the three Orrico girls, hit the Loop Around The Lake last week -- and did the 3.7 Mile Run in 38 minutes. Not her best time, but pretty great considering the amount of time she's spent unpacking the latest 62 (no, seriously SIXTY-TWO!) boxes of Lilly Pulitzer that have just arrived...

 

She's gonna need her stamina, because in the next 5 days, the sisters Orrico have got a full calendar. Look for Kathie, Casey and Colleen everywhere at almost the same time it seems:

Wednesday, they are chairing St Edwards annual fashion show, Thursday, they will be everyone's Palm Beach Sweethearts, Friday begins the 3-day Enter The Dragon Men's Event -- with Lilly Pulitzer Doug Conklyn on hand on Saturday afternoon to answer questions, talk about the evolution of the line and generally share the esprit du Lilly!
